Beeswax & olive oil finishes

Grating beeswax (I've read it's better to freeze it first)

We melted 1 oz of wax with 4 oz of olive oil, then wiped it on warm w/ a paper towel

As it cooled it was easier to just use our hands to rub it in like lotion - and it made our hands smooth, too!

We were just going to do our cutting board & rainbow, but Tweeters loved it so much we did all our tree blocks as well ;0)

Night ice skating

we shoveled off part of the lake for ice skating - cold but really fun!

All that cold weather makes the little ones want to snuggle up with us!

Winter scenery

Candlemas - mid point between the first day of winter & the first day of spring!

A Rose of Sharon with a 'snow bud', so pretty

Papa J took down a tree that was hanging over the house

Love this out my window...the way the sunlight plays with the trees & the shadows on the snow

10" of snow!  Been a busy winter for shovelling!

Art, Music & Sensory

Clay play - Ben had a mirror but not sure he really noticed it?

A little violin stress relief!

Water color....ahhh, so relaxing

We read this library book & admired the artwork....I attempted to do some sketches but no one else was interested this time out!  We'll try again another day!

Flash cooks for Chef Michael

The banana soup, with sausage waiting to be added

Lil' sister helping w/ the empanadas

And it's all right here....in this top secret recipe book made by HB!
I think the Mitchel family enjoyed their meal, at the very least they didn't have to cook ;0)

Taking a little break!

Funny, seems like most of the blogs I follow are doing this right now!  Maybe the weather, or changes in how people communicate, busy with spending time with our children....all of the above?  Anyway, it is easier to post our life on Instagram right now so I'm moving to that....I've done several posts to come out about every other day through the 16th though so those of you reading can enjoy a few more ;0)  I may update w/ HB's New Zealand pics next, but if you want more I'm MamaJ41 on IG.  Thanks for reading!

Back to Countryside Playschool 2014

First day back - what a great group!

The playground arrived - but we do need to wait for the ground to thaw before it goes in - exciting though!!

oh, random pic here of James reading Uncle Remus stories to Tweeters & Jam - he was here a few weeks in December to visit & we miss him already....

Tweeters building with blocks...

Jam (left) mixing colored water

Tweeters has a new friend, Kian.  He's really sweet!

Jam really loves these magnatiles that Isaac brought to share

Found these at Big Lots for $1 (down from $10!) - a bit stale but fun to decorate!

We also decorated gingerbread houses using graham crackers & peanut butter & fruit (I was trying to be somewhat healthy!)

LOVE this pic of Ezra!

Lots of Princess play this week :0)

We did the days of creation on our first day back, and this last week Tweeters was seeing who remembered!  She helped to make the cards w/ our regular Godly Play lessons at home, so she knows them pretty well.  She even remembered "firmament"!

And, we now have this lovely sign outside our door!  I feel so official!

A nice Rhythm for the New Year & some winter art

wet on wet watercolor with salt, made to look like a winter window scene

snowflakes made from our large 2013 calendar - perfect squares to cut!

Our Rhythm wall

This is a general outline for the week, and sometimes we swap days ie playdough, wax or other homemade dough may be made or come out on Thursday instead of Friday, or yogurt may be made on Friday, etc.  Saturday Sabbath things rotate - so the first Saturday we write letters or notes to family & friends, the second we invite someone to dinner, the third week we do a service project around the lake, and the fourth week we do a missionary or outreach activity online or through social media.  I am LOVING this and it keeps us all accountable!

Window art!
